Today, it became 'official' that the US Dept. of State and the Dept. of International Adoptions in Vietnam have decided that there will be no Special Needs adoptions processed after September 1st. So the country of Vietnam is now completely CLOSED for international adoptions to the United States until an agreement can be reached between the two countries.
Where does this leave us? At the head of the line as the doors slam shut in our faces. I do not know what to think or what to feel. I am angry because I thought that our government was on our side, that they were working for us. We elected them, we pay their exorbitant salaries. Silly me.
As more and more obstacles are thrown in my path, I become more determined than ever that someday, somehow, I WILL bring our child home from Vietnam.
I'm so sorry. I heard about this announcement this morning, and I just couldn't believe it. They are yanking the rug out from under people again. I feel so bad for all the adoptive parents-to-be and for the kids who get left behind because of this.
ReplyDeleteI am still hoping that they somehow work out an agreement. VN has finally appointed a negotiator, so that's progress. Who knows how long it will take, but some day I'm sure it will open again. As long as there are orphans, there are going to be people who want to adopt them. Hang in there.
